Escaping the valley heat for some beautiful family beach portraits

As luck would have it our beach trip was planned right as temperatures soared up to 109! Not the ideal time in the central california valley for outdoor family portraits! So of course we took advantage of the cool and overcast mornings while we were camping at the beach to capture some beautiful portraits to update my daughter’s wall collection. She currently has a black and white wall collection of newborn images in her living room which will be moved to another room and replaced with a fresh and fun beach art collage.

Anticipating the arrival of baby boy #3

Oh Boy! What fun having little L and D in the studio for some modern mommy and me portraits before baby boy number 3 arrives. We will be counting down with several sessions over the last trimester of Mom’s pregnancy and ending with newborn portraits to create a cute collage. They are such lovable little guys, I just know they will want to cuddle with their new brother the same way they cuddled all the teddy bears in our studio.

Happy 4th of July from our family to yours!

Found a cute 4th of July outfit complete with a patriotic USA ball cap at the Children’s Place so of course this called for a little red, white and blue session. I used a simple backdrop in downtown Visalia, threw in some balloons and a little American flag and voila, these are the amazing images I was able to create. Since this is my second post in a row of this little guy you can probably tell that I have a passion for capturing expressions up close. Although I love beautiful scenery, cute chairs and amazing props, including too many details in an image takes the focus off the child. In my own home I have a beautifully framed large 20×30 family photo from when our children were little. Although I love the image, a big tree takes up most of the canvas and in order to see my children’s faces I have to be standing within 6 inches of the portrait and even then I can’t see the details of their faces. Details, details, I’m all about the details! The little crooked smile, the cute dimples, beautiful eye lashes, wind blown wispy hairs and even the cowlick which can make for some wild hair days. I love and want to remember all those details and that is why I love shooting up close and personal.

Old school water fun on a hot summer day

Did someone say slip n’ slide?! Oh ya! The pool is great but a slip n’ slide is something every kid should experience at one time or another! Father’s Day was hot hot hot this year so being in water to stay cool was an absolute must. Did any of the adults go for it? Sorry, I’ll never tell and there are no photographs as evidence! Just use your imagination! Besides, the grand baby always takes much cuter pictures, don’t you think? Levi couldn’t quite figure out how to run and slide so his daddy had to give him a big push and send him laughing with joy down the runway. How did I get these shots you might ask? Laying on my belly in the grass of course! A position, by the way, that I take quite often during a photo shoot. A zoom lens was also a must so as not to get splashed or nailed by the kid being launched towards me! I just love this little series of a kid being a kid!

Visalia SDA church hosts Free health fair for community of Goshen

Twice a year the Visalia Seventh Day Adventist Church in partnership with The Promise FM 89.7 KARM hosts a free whole life health fair in different locations around the Visalia community. On June 10th, 2012 the church hosted it’s first health fair out of town in the neighboring community of Goshen. Among the many services provided are free health screenings for vision, dental, and medical for both children and adults. The Prayer ministry was available for anyone needing prayer and children’s bible stories and literature were also passed out. A sampling of healthy vegan food choices included fruit with dairy free yogurt and granola and dairy free nacho sauce and chips. A petting zoo, bounce house, snow cones and cold water including many other goodies were also available for all in attendance.
